Florentina Garden Festival, Visegrád, 23 - 25 May
- 13 May 2026 11:46 AM
The event grew from a 2021 citizen initiative by the Visegrád Roses Association. Residents received 120 climbing rose plants to plant and maintain at prominent spots around town.
Since then, more than 700 climbing, rambler, floribunda and bush roses, plus clematis, peonies and other ornamentals, have appeared on public spaces. The long-term goal matches one rose per resident. Community donations and volunteer work fund rose plaques and support structures to keep plantings neat and visible. Beyond gardening, the project builds local ties.
The festival offers activities for all ages. Rose walks run on foot, e-bike (pre-registration required) or horse-drawn carriage. On-site flower market, food and drink stalls, craft workshops and children's programmes fill out the days.
Sunday's highlight, the Florentina Festive Parade, runs 10:00-11:30 through rose-lined streets with walkers, horse carriages and riders. Delegations from Dunakanyar towns join in floral displays. At the end, participants add their flowers to a shared installation that becomes a collective artwork.
From 13:00 Sunday, a five-round team competition features festive dress, quizzes, puzzles and skill challenges. Prizes include hotel stays, Danube speedboat trips, Renaissance dinners and other experiences.
Music and culture include a candlelit outdoor jazz piano evening with Darvas Kristóf on Saturday night, a DJ party and fire show Sunday evening, plus family-friendly elements and visuals on Monday.
