Held annually on the second weekend of July, the International Palace Games of Visegrád stands as Hungary’s largest medieval festival.
This spectacular three-day event brings history to life in a uniquely authentic setting, drawing an international audience with a vibrant lineup of reenactors, musicians, dancers, comedians, and jugglers from across Europe.
The festival dates back to 1985, founded as a living tribute to the famous 1335 royal summit in Visegrád.
That historic meeting laid the groundwork for Central European cooperation, and today, the Palace Games continue to celebrate this shared cultural heritage.
Reflecting this spirit of unity, participants and performers travel from all Visegrád Four (V4) nations—Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic—as well as Italy, Germany, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Austria.
The festival's crown jewels are the thrilling infantry and mounted knight tournaments, held on the original tournament grounds of the Royal Palace. Visitors can also marvel at flag-throwing displays, archery contests, and falconry shows.
Beyond the battlefield, the palace’s authentic chambers and beautiful Renaissance gardens open to the public, offering a rare glimpse into the daily life of a grand medieval royal residence.
Across the broader festival grounds, the atmosphere is electric. Attendees can enjoy live period music, join in on traditional medieval dances, cheer on their favorite knights during historical duels, and enjoy lively puppet theater and street comedies.
