Spreading Fake Energy Crisis Claims May Carry Criminal Charges in Hungary

Anyone who spreads false information, sows panic, or misleads the Hungarian people during the current energy crisis must face criminal liability, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said in Szazhalombatta on Friday, during a visit to the MOL Danube Refinery.

The prime minister urged everyone to refrain from spreading false information in the coming period, as Hungary faces "difficult and complex energy crisis on an unprecedented scale".

"No one should work against their own country or spread falsehoods," he said.

"Those - whether propagandists or anyone else - who attempt to mislead or frighten the Hungarian people should be ashamed of themselves," Magyar added.
