Born and educated in Liverpool so a lifelong Reds supporter.
Worked 1973 - 1989 on the financial side of insurance and reinsurance at Royal Insurance Group. Since 1989 in the recruitment business, working in Liverpool and Preston in England and, since 1993, in Central Europe - initially in Prague but now based in Budapest, responsible for Hungary and Poland.
Not married but with a Hungarian partner/other half.
Interview:
1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
1995. I needed the job!
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Previous to Budapest, I was in Prague.
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
The family name/first name order. Confused is probably more accurate than surprised.
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend-what must they absolutely see and do?
The usual suspects - a bus tour, a Duna cruise and Szechényi Baths for the cultural aspect. For me a must is to take friends to some of Budapest's excellent dining and watering holes.
5. What is your favorite Hungarian food?
Rakott krumpli.
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Sour milk.
7. What is your favorite Hungarian word?
Egészségére!
8. What do you miss the most from home?
Going to watch Liverpool at Anfield.
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Cricket or football player.
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Rugby player.
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Majorca
12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Egypt
13 What was your favorite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
The Beatles (gives the age away I reckon)
14. What can't you resist?
Bacon sandwiches.
15. Red wine or white?
Red
16. Book or movie?
Book
17. Morning person or night person?
Morning (that changes at the weekend!)
18. Dog person or cat person?
Dog
19. Buda side or Pest side?
Buda to live, Pest for work and play.
