On a cold, wet Sunday afternoon, what better way to enjoy yourself than with some wonderful food and drink? And the crowds did come out to enjoy the annual Mangalica Festival. If you fancy a taste of a pig that came close to extinction just a few decades ago, the magnificent mangalica meat is said to be even tastier and healthier than regular pork.

Today it is the worlds largest 'folk-festival' in the world with more than 6 million visitors yearly. These facts motivated other cities like Paris, Sydney and Edinburgh to run their own ‘Octoberfests’, and this year it took place in Budapest for the first time.

I was intrigued to find out exactly what street food was on offer this weekend, in downtown Pest, at the historic Hold Street covered market hall. To my surprise, so were many more, who gravitated to this very popular occasion. Held in the elevated part of the market, you could meander around and take your pick at the many different foods and drinks on offer.
