At the age of 18, Dezső Ránki won first prize at the Schumann International Competition in Zwickau, and has performed concerts worldwide ever since. Among others, he has played with the Berlin and London Philharmonics, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Orchestre National in Paris, and under noted conductors including Sir Georg Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta.

The General Assembly of the Budapest Philharmonic Society - the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera - elected internationally acclaimed conductor Pinchas Steinberg Chief Conductor and President of the orchestra on 5 February 2013. Steinberg will take over in February 2014.
