Border Fence In Hungary May Be Built By Prisoners

The government will have prisoners construct the fence on the border with Serbia, Népszava writes today, based on a cabinet resolution published in official gazette Magyar Közlöny. The resolution reassigns Ft 6.57 billion from government reserves to cover costs expected to arise at corrections institutes. The sum is identical to the cost of building the barrier as announced by the government.

After two years of operation, luxury clothing shop Il Bacio di Stile will close down on July 31, its owner company Dolcer has announced. The shop on Andrássy út in Budapest’s Sixth District was loss-making due to high costs and lower spending by tourists, Dolcer added. Dolcer’s owner, pornography mogul György Gattyán, has invested Ft 18 billion in the project over the past seven years.

The costs of the planned Budapest Olympics could be on a par with those of the enlargement of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the weekly HVG has claimed. According to the paper, Hungary would have to rake out as much as HUF 4-5000 billion if it wins the right to organise the 2024 Summer Olympics, in stark contrast to the government’s HUF 774 billion cost estimate.

The bulk purchasing price of milk was 100 forints per litre a year ago but earlier agreed contractual prices have fallen to 75-77 per litre and spot market prices are as low as 72-73 forints per litre, business daily Világgazdaság reported. Production costs for most range between 95- 98 forints per litre according to the paper and only subsidies are keeping many producers from going bankrupt.
