The city of Debrecen, in eastern Hungary, will submit a bid to be a European Capital of Culture in 2023, Debrecen Mayor László Papp said. The mayor said that his city had aspired for the title in 2010, but Pécs, in southern Hungary, was selected instead. This time round the title will be shared with a city in the United Kingdom.

Four Hungarian universities have been listed among the world’s best on Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)’s world rankings for 2015/2016, published in the early hours of Tuesday. Among Hungarian higher education institutions, the University of Szeged, ranked in the 501-550 bracket, achieved the best result, somewhat improving its score for the previous year.
