Budapest city council approved a long list of proposed venues for the 2024 Olympic games to be included in the official bid presentation. The chief venue would be a new 60,000-seat stadium for track and field events, to be built on Csepel Island, that could later be scaled down to 15,000 seats.

A court in south-eastern Hungary handed a two-year prison term, suspended for four years, to Miklós Hagyó, Budapest’s former Socialist deputy mayor, on charges of embezzlement. Five other defendants out of a total 15 in the case, initiated under suspicion of major corruption, have similarly been sentenced to suspended prison terms of various lengths.

The municipality of Budapest on Tuesday signed two credit agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a total of 300 million euros. The agreements were signed by deputy mayor Gábor Bagdy and EIB Vice President László Baranyay.

The 56 meter long CAF trams are expected to start running on line nr 1 next spring. Tram drivers are already practising to drive it on simulators. Deputy Mayor Balázs Szeneczey explained during the ceremony that the new, Spanish-made tram is the longest one in the world, it has 86 seats and its passenger capacity is 345.
