It’s been 150 years since Hungary’s very first zoo, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden in the heart of the capital opened its gates to the public on August 9, 1866, writes hvg.hu. It was back at the end of the 18th century that the first public zoos were opened in Western Europe, the zoo in Vienna, for instance, began welcoming visitors in 1780.

On my travels around Buda I’ve passed this villa venue several times, and was intrigued to find out what it was actually like as I asked friends and no-one I knew had visited, yet. So recently, rather than go to one of my usual haunts I ventured over to leafy Buda from downtown Pest, and was definitely not disappointed to make this trip.

The European Union must seek closer cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday. Szijjártó is attending a meeting of EU and ASEAN foreign ministers in Bangkok where the representatives of 28 EU countries and 10 Southeast Asian countries met. The minister highlighted the importance of restarting free trade talks.
