The number of guest nights spent in Hungarian hotels and guesthouses went up by an annual 3.8% to 2,247,000 in May, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Tourism has proven successful as one of the driving forces of the national economy: between 1 January and 31 May, 3.4 million tourists spent a total of 7.9 million guest nights at commercial accommodation establishments.

Hungary’s summer festivals are receiving a total of nearly 500 million forints (EUR 1.6m) state support this year, an official of the Ministry of Human Resources said. State secretary Bence Rétvári told a press conference that the Sziget Festival in Budapest, the Volt Festival in Sopron in western Hungary and the Balaton Sound festival are getting a combined 150 million forints (EUR 476,000).
Hungarian Forint Steady Despite Greek Turbulence

Greek woes may mean some temporary weakness for the Hungarian currency but it is set to firm in the medium term, analysts say after a brief wobble. The forint showed resilience on Monday, trading at 316.06 to the euro late in the day, down from 314.68 on Friday but up from 316.44 late Sunday. It hit an intraday low of 317.12 on Monday.

The economy ministry has set a quota for the number of non-European Union citizens that can be employed in Hungary, a decision published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows. According to the new legal regulation, the number of non- EU citizens employed in Hungary simultaneously must not exceed the monthly average labour demand reported in the previous year.
