As always in Budapest, and nationwide in Hungary, there are a great number of colorful state programs on August 20, Hungary’s national holiday. In 2014 for the first time, the MoD National Event Management Office is responsible for organizing the series of events. Read on for details of this special day in Hungary's capital.

Experiences in flavours and gastronomy; a bustling fair and superb concerts will entertain visitors at the Onion Festival of Makó on September 7 and 8. You can walk in the “Street of Flavours”, see folk art and talk with the ones who make them. There will be a wide selection of the products of local farmers and manufacturers exhibited. You can taste food made with onion – bread, strudel and scone.

This year, 20 August celebrations will be held under the slogan “The country – together as one”. A special feature of this year’s events is that the series of programmes Nagyon Balaton (Very Balaton!) will include colourful family events, concerts and fireworks in several towns along the shores of Lake Balaton to commemorate the foundation of the Hungarian State.
