Dezső Tandori, a renowned Hungarian writer, poet and literary translator, has died at the age of 80, the Petőfi Literary Museum and the Digital Literary Academy said, citing information from his family.

Beijing’s third largest daily newspaper, Xin Jing Bao, chose Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai’s novel, Sátántangó, as the best book of 2017. The author shared the good news on his Facebook page and congratulated the book’s “excellent translator”, Yu Zemin.

I was born in Budapest on 15th February 1970. At the age of five I entered the world of high performance sport as a member of KSI – Central Sports School gymnastics team. In 1986 I joined the Postás Sports Club and then, through a scholarship, continued in the USA with the University of Minnesota’s gymnastics team. It was there that I concluded my active career in elite sport.

So much so that there is a danger that life in Hungary revolves around the capital and we don’t take or make the time to venture further afield.

Born in Rome, Anna is French and Canadian of Russian origin. Both sets of grandparents were born in Russia and escaped during the revolution in 1917 making their way to Paris where they settled. Eventually her paternal grandparents immigrated to New York and once again started new lives.

One of the first things that would happen in a new job is that I’d have a visit from HR or Occupational Health or Health and Safety (depending on the country) to check out my workstation.
