Hungary would be required to take in a total of 1,134 asylum seekers over the next two years under the latest European Commission proposal for dealing with the rise in refugees arriving at EU borders and coastlines. As the plan, released on Wednesday, envisages resettling 60,000 migrants, Hungary would be host to about 2% of the total.

Four Hungarian regions have been included on a list of the EU’s twenty poorest regions, compiled by Eurostat on the basis of a comparison of regions’ GDP per capita on 2013 price levels to the EU-28 average for that year. The results show that Central London is the most prosperous region, with its Gross Domestic Product amounting to 325 per cent of the EU average.

The International Monetary Fund raised its forecast for Hungary’s economic growth in its Regional Economic Issues report. Growth could reach 2.7% this year according to the new report. The forecast was raised from 2.3% in the previous report published in October 2014. For 2016, the IMF expects growth of 2.3%.
