The annual Sziget Festival will this year pay greater attention to 'spectacle' in response to international trends, organisers said on Wednesday. Chief organiser Károly Gerendai said about €1 million will be spent on development projects and spectacles, including a 60-metre high Ferris wheel, as well as a Sziget Beach on the northern tip of the island.

The colorful and diverse line-up of Sziget Festival 2013 is building up well, with 24 new acts freshly announced for various stages: many are new-comers to Sziget, but there will be many acts that have proven popular in previous editions of the event too. The non-stop week of party fun will be held this year between 5-12 August.

Costes has once more been awarded the accolade of 'Best Restaurant 2012' by the local Dining Guide publication. This is the second time the restaurant has won this prize, the most prestigious award in the Hungarian gastronomy scene. The prize was received by expat chef Miguel Viera Rocha, and Károly Gerendai the main owner of Costes.

On Monday morning the 20th Sziget Festival officially ended. Glastonbury’s founder, Michael Eavis was amongst the 379 thousand visitors, generously praising Sziget for being even more colourful than his own event. After Est Media failed to find a financial investor, the majority shareholders of Sziget led by founder and CEO Károly Gerendai will purchase 49% of Est Media’s 51% stake in the festival organising company. The purchase price is Ft 675 million, exactly the sum that Est Media owes to creditors UniCredit bank and Wallis. The stake in Sziget was the collateral offered on these loans.
