Media In Hungary Rated 'Partly Free' By Freedom House

Although Freedom House has improved the scores of Hungary, it said the country’s media is still “partly free” in its 2013 global media freedom report released on Thursday. The Washington-based independent NGO ranked Hungary 71th on its global list of 197 countries, with a press freedom score of 35 on a scale of 100. FH’s report for 2012 ranked Hungary 74th, with a press freedom score of 36.

As it is clear from the article, the journalists of the magazine know who I am, but only as someone who formerly contributed to Galamus and who appeared a few times on Klubrádió. Both were years ago. For example, the last regular article I wrote for Galamus was in May 2011.

The national media authority NMHH will sign a contract with Klubrádió on awarding the commercial broadcaster a licence to operate as a community broadcaster next Thursday, the authority told MTI. Under the contract, the radio operating now on the commercial Budapest 95.3 MHz frequency will switch over to the community Budapest 92.9 MHz frequency on Feb. 14, the authority said.
