Each year, on 11 April, Hungarians come together to celebrate The Day of Hungarian Poetry. As a part of this event, held on the birthday of famed Hungarian poet Attila József since 1964, people young and old celebrated the inspiring achievements of their country’s greatest literary geniuses.

In 2015 and 2017, Patrick won a translation grant from the Milán Füst foundation to support his work translating plays by Milán Füst (Boldogtalanok) and Sándor Bródy (A dada). He plans to continue his work as a literary translator and dreams of producing an anthology of classic Hungarian plays in his own English translations.

Hurdle runner Balázs Baji and world champion swimmer Katinka Hosszú have been elected Hungary’s Athletes of the Year by the country’s sports journalists. Baji won a gold medal at the Taipei Universiade and a bronze at the London track and field world championship.

Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker has for decades been an essential part of the Opera's run-up to Christmas. In memory of Vasili Vainonen and Gusztáv Oláh, we first presented for Christmas of 2015 a newly buffed-up show that follows classical ballet traditions while still conforming to the requirements of 21st century dance and set design.
