This year’s 'beach season' in the Hungarian capital starts on Saturday 27 April, with the opening of Palatinus, Dagály and Paskál thermal baths. Árpád Forrásfürdő will open again from 18 May, while traditional summer 'strands' - as they're known in Hungary - like Római and Pünkösdfürdő will open in June - see below for all opening dates.

Budapest spas attracted 4.5 million visitors in 2017, an increase of 7.3% year on year, the marketing director for spa operator Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévizei (BGYH) said in Tuesday’s issue of business daily Világgazdaság.

The strands and 'beach areas' of the Gellért Baths, Palatinus Baths and Paskál Baths are now open. Csillaghegyi Baths will open 26 May, Római Baths on 27 May, while Pünkösdfürdői Baths opens on 2 June.

Mayor István Tarlós formally reopened the Palatinus swimming complex on Margaret Island on Thursday, after a Ft 2.8 billion renovation. The recreational bath complex will now be open all-year round.

The city hides a lot of retreats from summer heat. Palatinus Strand on peaceful Margaret Island is one of the most enjoyable ones. One of the oldest of its kind, it opened in 1919 during the short-lived Communist regime of Béla Kun. Since 2013 it was extended by two thermal pools and thus it’s a combination of STRAND and FÜRDŐ.
