Sunday Shopping Ban Extended To World Heritage Sites

The cabinet has decided to extend the ban on Sunday retail activity, to take effect on 15 March, to world heritage sites, government spokesman András Giró-Szász has said. In addition to large areas in central Budapest, the decision will affect the towns of Sátoraljaújhely, Szerencs, Sárospatak and Tokaj in the Tokaj historical wine region in northeastern Hungary.

The National Bureau of Investigation yesterday raided the Budapest headquarters of brokerage Quaestor and initiated criminal proceedings against an unidentified person on suspicion of large-scale fraud. Greenpeace commissioned a local company, Isotoptech, to carry out tests outside the facility in a canal that flows into the Hortobágy river.
