The discovery of a 500kg World War II bomb at the foot of the Északi railway bridge linking Újpest to Buda’s Római párt prompted authorities to close the bridge yesterday and to order local residents to evacuate their homes before the device is defused today.

I have been cycling up to Romai Part and Szentendre for years, and have always loved the four water and coal-clock towers at the old gas works. Luckily they have managed to survive (so far) the reconstruction of the old chemical works as an industrial park. In 1908 a municipal decision was made to replace several obsolete gas factories with a single new facility.

Last Friday a friend and I went cycling at night to Romai part. I normally go early in the morning, but it was really lovely at night. We got a bit re-routed through the Sziget Festival crowds around the Filatorigat HEV stop (which gets its name from an 18th century threat factory at the location), but it was not a real problem.

A team of 40 police officers started a bicycle patrol operation in the capital as of yesterday. Allegedly police have been told people on bikes do sometimes have a 'strong drink' or two, but unless they look unstable peddlers shouldn’t be fined - however caution is strongly advised in that regard. This comes along with the news that Budapest plans to offer a public bike-sharing system named bubi ...
New BKV Boat Service In Budapest Started On 1 July

City council approved a plan to have boats carry passengers on the Danube within Budapest as part of the public transport operations. The fee is Ft 400, but seasonal passes will be accepted. The ferry services started on July 1.
