"Named after the Christian virgin, St. Lucy's day (Lucia or Luca’s day - luca napja) is one of the richest in customs and superstitions in Hungary. Before the Gregorian calendar reform, it was the shortest and darkest day of the year, and it marked the beginning of the winter solstice. It lets you request help from emergency services directly through your phone, and sends them your real-time location. No need to know the nearest cross street. No need to panic about explaining “we’re just past the bend with the plum tree.”

The number of registered sexually transmitted diseases is constantly increasing in Europe, including Hungary. For example, the number of people diagnosed with syphilis has doubled in ten years, according to a statement sent to MTI by Semmelweis University (SE).
