Pécs Zoo director Miklós Szatyor yesterday shot dead a wolf that escaped from the enclosure on Saturday. The wolf, which had arrived from an Italian zoo on the previous day, jumped over a 2.5-metre high fence at 10 a.m. Saturday as zookeepers were filling a watering hole. Authorities evacuated the surrounding woods as police and hunters began an unsuccessful search for the creature.
