A top tourism official has issued reassurances that Hungary remains safe and that local authorities can guarantee the security of all tourists who arrive in the country. Deputy state secretary for tourism Ádám Ruszinkó told reporters in front of Saint Stephen’s Basilica, in the city centre, that Budapest’s tourist attractions are far from areas affected by the refugee crisis.

Hotel occupancy has shot up in Budapest for the weekend when the 30th Formula One Grand Prix will take place on Hungaroring near the capital, daily Napi Gazdaság said on Thursday. The event this year is expected to draw 10% more visitors than in 2014, most of them coming from abroad, the paper said.
