The Hungarian Swimming Federation’s annual general meeting gave a vote of confidence in president Tamás Gyárfás with 118 affirmative votes, against only one dissension and one abstention on Sunday. Gyárfás said in a speech to the gathering that no matter how unfair he considers the attacks of recent weeks, he feels that he must tolerate the slaps and cannot hide as his responsibility is so large.

Budapest needs to market itself more intensively on the global tourism market, otherwise it is missing out on lots of opportunities, president Herve Humler of the newly opened Ritz-Carlton, told Népszabadság in an interview. The Ritz-Carlton opened its first Budapest hotel last week with 170 rooms and 30 suites following an extensive renovation of the building that once housed Le Meridien.

The Bakers Association is lobbying for the extension of VAT cuts to bread products, after the government announced plans to lower the consumption tax on milk, eggs and poultry to 5% from 27% in 2017. Bread is the most basic food, and lower taxes would not only curb tax evasion, but lead to higher production and more jobs, the association argued.

The head of Parliament’s storeroom is accused of stealing 90 computer devices, including seven brand new laptops belonging to Fidesz from Parliament and the MPs office building, website Átlátszó reported on Tuesday. Police found one of the laptops advertised on the internet and found the suspect through the seller.

Kecskemét company Magnus Aircraft has developed a two-seater aircraft powered by an electric engine to be presented at the Aero Fridrichshafen exhibition on April 20-23.
