MNB will withdraw the Ft 20,000 bank notes, that were issued before 2015, from circulation at the end of the year, it was just announced. The banknotes can be exchanged and converted at Magyar Posta offices until January 2020. New Ft 20,000 notes with enhanced security features were issued last year.

The Kúria has decided that the right to privacy of police officers outweighs the fact that they exercise public power, upholding the argument that their faces must be covered in press photos. Hungary’s budget is expected to run a cash-flow-based deficit of 1,166.4 billion forints (EUR 3.7bn) next year, well above the 761.6 billion gap targeted for 2016. The 2017 budget bill targets revenue of 17,374.9 billion forints and expenditures of 18,541.3 billion.

The Budapest general assembly voted to cut funding for the internationally celebrated Budapest Festival Orchestra from last year’s 260 million forints (EUR 840,000) to 60 million forints. Budapest Deputy Mayor Alexandra Szalay- Bobrovniczky said in the debate on the orchestra’s funding that it receives a significant amount of state support alongside the money it gets from the city.
