• Refugees Flow Through Hungarian Border Towards Szeged

    Serbian authorities transported 150 bus loads of illegal immigrants from Belgrade to the Hungarian border in two days as the first of the refugees who were stopped at the Greek-Macedonian border for days last week, arrived at the Serbia-Hungary border. The refugees gather at a collection point in Serbia then follow railway tracks to arrive in Hungary near Röszke.

    Celebrations of Saint Stephen’s Day were held across the country and in Hungarian communities in neighbouring countries. In front of Parliament the national flag was hoisted with military honours. As a traditional part of the ceremony, young army officers took their oaths after the hoisting of the flag. In his address to the new officers, President János Áder said that the nation should take a joint effort “to build a new security for our civic democracy in the 21st century”.

    The Vasarely Museum is located in a tranquil part of Budapest (Óbuda), on the banks of the Danube. It used to function as the storage building of the grand 18th-century Zichy Palace and was turned into a museum in 1987, after Victor Vasarely (Győző Vásárhelyi) donated a rich selection of his work to the Museum of Fine Arts.

This day is also a national holiday in honour of Saint Stephen (King István I.), founder of the state of Hungary, as well as the festival of the new bread.

    The MAV Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1945 by the Hungarian State Railways. Shortly after the Second World War, it established its name carrying a series of great concerts to the destroyed towns all over the country. As time passed, the orchestra developed a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary music, and is currently ranked among the best professional ensembles in Hungary.
