Serbian authorities transported 150 bus loads of illegal immigrants from Belgrade to the Hungarian border in two days as the first of the refugees who were stopped at the Greek-Macedonian border for days last week, arrived at the Serbia-Hungary border. The refugees gather at a collection point in Serbia then follow railway tracks to arrive in Hungary near Röszke.
According to MLSZ.hu, a clinical Ferencváros scored three goals without reply to defeat Debrecen this weekend and surge seven points clear of Honvéd, who hammered Békéscsaba 4-1, and Haladás, who drew 0-0 with an as-yet unbeaten Újpest, in NBI’s second and third positions. Elsewhere, Diosgyőr secured a welcome point at Paks, Puskás Akadémia beat Vasas by a goal to nil and MTK inflicted yet more woe upon managerless Videoton.
Celebrations of Saint Stephen’s Day were held across the country and in Hungarian communities in neighbouring countries. In front of Parliament the national flag was hoisted with military honours. As a traditional part of the ceremony, young army officers took their oaths after the hoisting of the flag. In his address to the new officers, President János Áder said that the nation should take a joint effort “to build a new security for our civic democracy in the 21st century”.
Fire crews had been called to over 350 scenes – mostly in the capital and its surroundings – until Tuesday morning after an extraordinary storm showering the country with 1.5 months of rain during a period of a couple of hours hit Hungary yesterday evening.
The Vasarely Museum is located in a tranquil part of Budapest (Óbuda), on the banks of the Danube. It used to function as the storage building of the grand 18th-century Zichy Palace and was turned into a museum in 1987, after Victor Vasarely (Győző Vásárhelyi) donated a rich selection of his work to the Museum of Fine Arts.
This large-scale festival is put on for the public every year on 20th August. There is an exhibition of Hungarian crafts, a water and an air parade, and a firework display. This day is also a national holiday in honour of Saint Stephen (King István I.), founder of the state of Hungary, as well as the festival of the new bread.
The MAV Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1945 by the Hungarian State Railways. Shortly after the Second World War, it established its name carrying a series of great concerts to the destroyed towns all over the country. As time passed, the orchestra developed a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary music, and is currently ranked among the best professional ensembles in Hungary. On average, 50.000 people attend the concerts every year, but through the media, a lot more is reached.
