Making a dance adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author László Krasznahorkai’s 1985 novel Satantango is a huge challenge. Noémi Kulcsár and her dance company staged the contemporary classic by applying the conventions of dance and the stage, translating its unique world and distinctive pulse into spatial formations and rhythm.

The metaphorical and real dance depicted in Satantango thus becomes a dance-like interplay between eternity and earthbound existence, at once lyrical and grotesque.
