Airport Expansion Works Start
Work on expanding the capacity of Budapest’s international airport started this week with the demolition of metal pavilions erected for passengers of low-cost airlines, Budapest Airport spokesman Mihály Hardi told Világgazdaság.

Buses will be deployed instead during the Ft 6 billion project, he added.

One of the main elements of the expansion is construction of a new 10,000m2 addition to terminal 2B that will be able to serve ten aircraft.

The construction will be completed by the summer of 2018, increasing the annual capacity of the airport from 12 million passengers to 15 million.

Preparations for construction of a third terminal are to begin in 2019, Hardi added.

A hotel will be built at the airport by December of this year.
