The man was hospitalised in serious condition, around ten days after falling ill, and his condition did not improve despite receiving treatment, head of the hospital’s intensive care unit János Orosz told the paper.
Laboratory tests identified the B strain of the virus, he added.
A ban has been introduced in the hospital and several others in Hungary because of the current flu epidemic.
The man in Sátoraljaújhely has been the only case where H1N1 was identified, the paper added.
