EU To Support Budapest Metro 3 Reconstruction With Eur 473.4 M
The European Union will contribute 473.4 million euros in cohesion funding to the reconstruction of Budapest’s third metro line, EU Commissioner Corina Creţu announced.

The commissioner who is in charge of regional policy said that the renewed metro line would serve over 500,000 passengers daily as well as tourists visiting the Hungarian capital.

The funds will be sufficient to replace rails and offer faster and safer travel, while all 20 stations and the whole lighting system along the line will be renewed. The commissioner said that the welfare of residents was a priority for the EU and welcomed that the whole line would be made wheelchair accessible.

The 17km metro line is expected to be renewed by 2021, while its increased capacity will facilitate transport of an additional 13,000 passengers each day, she added.
