New Budapest Railway Bridge Tested
The new Budapest railway bridge – actually the third track on the South Railway Bridge –was tested with heavy trains on Monday night, state infrastructure developer NIF said on Tuesday.

A locomotive weighing 116 tons and 14 wagons weighing 70 tons each were placed on the bridge.

This was a static test. A dynamic test is scheduled for Sunday, after which normal traffic may start on the same day.

The tests are carried out by the Bridge and Structures Department of the Budapest Technical University.

The bridge will be the first new railway connection over the Danube for 70 years.

The construction was completed by Duna Aszfalt and Mélyépítő for Ft 36 billion.
