Watch: Xploring Hungary - Cifrapalota ‘Ornamented Palace’ in Kecskemét
The Cifrapalota is a particularly beautiful Art Nouveau building in Kecskemét at the confluence of Rákóczi út and Szabadság tér. It was built in 1902 according to the plans of Géza Márkus,  and originally housed apartments, shops, and a commercial casino.

The building was called Cifrapalota by the vernacular. The building was built in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style, in which the Kecskemét Gallery currently operates.

The glazed facade decorations and roof tiles were made by the Zsolnay factory. It also owes its name to the brilliance of these. The decoration is relatively independent of the building.

The Cifrapalota building has been used for museum purposes since 1983, and has been operating in the exhibition spaces of the József Katona Museum since 1996.

On the ground floor and on the first floor, historical, art historical, archeological, ethnographic and local history periodical exhibitions alternate.

Address: 6000 Kecskemét, Bethlen krt. 1.
