Home rental rates were up 8.6% year-on-year in October, climbing for the fifth month in a row after falling for more than a year, according to the index compiled by the Central Statistics Office and Ingatlan.com.

Monthly rental fees rose by 7.9% in Budapest on an annual basis and by 1.4% from the previous month.

The steepest price rise was recorded in the Buda Hills districts, with 8.1% annual growth. In outer districts of Pest rents rose by 5.1%.

The monthly rental rate for a flat averaged Ft 150,000 in Budapest and Ft 78,000-130,000 in county capitals.

Outside Budapest, prices were highest in Veszprém, Debrecen and Székesfehérvár. The cheapest rents were available in Békes¬csaba and Salgótarján.

Despite the continuous increase in prices, rents in Budapest are still below the pre-pandemic level, while they are close to historic highs in the major cities of Western Hungary.
