New Restrictions Proposed for Budapest’s Party District
The Seventh District council is considering a plan to allow bars in Budapest’s party district to be open no later than midnight five days a week from October, according to local activist group Színes Erzsébetváros.

The council has been working for two years on developing strict criteria to regulate the opening hours of pubs and bars. However, this work has not led to results, partly because of the pandemic, and partly because of issues with the application, writes 444.

The working group essentially has ceased to function in recent months, and now it seems that the local council has had enough.

It is no longer consulting stakeholders, and will apply the rule to all establishments without exception, according to a leaked draft. The new regulations may come into effect as early as October 17.

According to Színes Erzsébetváros, the district management is apparently satisfied with the consultation with the stakeholders and intends to decide on the issue unilaterally.
