Online ticketing has become increasingly popular, with 60 percent of passengers opting for it, up from 57.8 percent in 2023.
This shift reflects growing preferences for digital channels, while traditional ticket office sales have decreased to around 41 percent.
MÁV’s international services have expanded and improved.
Vienna remains the top destination, with more than 220,000 passengers traveling there in the first half of the year.
Other popular destinations include Bratislava and Munich, with direct trains from Budapest operating every hour to Vienna and every two hours to Bratislava and Munich.
Last year, Vienna saw 420,000 travelers, 285,000 of whom purchased tickets online.
The “START Europa” offers, which won an IT Innovation Award, continue to attract travelers with tickets starting at EUR 13, particularly to Austria. Over half a million people chose this option in 2023. Notable increases have also been observed in ticket purchases to Ukraine and Poland.
New travel options include last-minute discounts for Adria InterCity trains to Croatia, available for travel on August 25, 27, and September 1, 4.
START Europa tickets now cover almost all Hungarian and foreign stations in 15 countries, offering affordable second-class (EUR 5) and first-class (EUR 10) tickets for children traveling with adults.
MÁV’s enhanced international services and growing online ticket sales highlight the company’s commitment to quality and convenience, making rail travel a preferred choice for many.
