1. Váci Street: Budapest’s Shopping Paradise

Váci Street is the most well-known shopping street in the Hungarian capital. The pedestrian street in the heart of the city centre is divided into two sections by the Elisabeth Bridge.

In the section between Fővám Square and the Elisabeth Bridge, you will mainly find restaurants and souvenir shops. This quieter and more tranquil part of Váci Street captures the Hungarian atmosphere exceptionally well.

In the section between the Elisabeth Bridge and Vörösmarty Square, you will find mainly international fashion and designer boutiques. You can also discover several restaurants in this section where you can taste some of the finest dishes of Hungarian cuisine.

Váci Street ends at Vörösmarty Square, which hosts numerous fairs throughout the year. You will also find the more than 160-year-old Gerbeaud Café here, where it is definitely worth stopping in for a delicious pastry.

2. Fashion Street: the Heart of Fashion

If you are looking for something more exclusive, you will not have to go far from Váci Street, as luxury abounds in a street located between Vörösmarty Square and Deák Ferenc Square.

On Fashion Street, you can shop at international brand stores such as Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Lindt, Benetton, and Massimo Dutti. The shopping street truly shines during the Christmas season: each year, the street is beautifully decorated with festive lights.

3. Andrássy Avenue: The Luxury Shopping Street


If you cross to the other side of Deák Ferenc Square, you will soon find yourself on Andrássy Avenue. Andrássy Avenue is one of the most iconic and elegant streets in Budapest, lined with beautiful villas, luxury boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and cafés – and even the Hungarian State Opera House is located here.

Andrássy Avenue can also be divided into two sections.

The first section extends to Oktogon and is home to numerous luxury brands: You can shop at stores of world-famous brands such as Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, Michael Kors, Guess, and many others.

The second section stretches between Oktogon and Heroes’ Square. Although you will not find many shopping opportunities here, it is definitely worth strolling through due to the old villas and charming tree-lined avenue – in addition, Andrássy Avenue is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

4. Falk Miksa Street: The Heaven for Antiques Lovers



If you prefer old and unique items over new ones, then Falk Miksa Street will be your dream destination in Budapest. In this street in District 5, you can browse numerous antique shops, galleries and second-hand bookstores.

In the shops, you can discover true rarities, for example, unique jewelry, antique art pieces, works of art, sculptures, and rare books. There is no doubt that you will definitely find something truly unique as a gift here.
 

5. Malls: The Go-To Places for Practical Purchases

If you want to take care of everything in one place, head to one of Budapest’s shopping malls. You will find numerous malls throughout the city; there is hardly a district in the capital that does not have at least one smaller or larger shopping centre.

In downtown, Arena Mall, Allee, Westend, or Mammut are great choices, offering clothing stores, drugstores, grocery stores, restaurants, and cinemas all in one building.

6. Great Market Hall: The Bastion of Hungarian Flavours

The Great Market Hall is a place you simply cannot miss during your visit to Budapest. The hall located at Fővám Square is one of the most impressive markets: in the wrought-iron building, you can experience a vibrant market atmosphere combined with a historic backdrop.

In the Market Hall, you can purchase handcrafted products, Hungarian spices, souvenirs, fresh vegetables, fruits, and a variety of local products.

Plan your visit so that you arrive at the Market Hall with an empty stomach because you can sample traditional Hungarian dishes at the market – blood sausage, traditional sausage, lángos (deep-fried flatbread with toppings), or strudel are definitely great choices for a snack.

If you want to shop at discounted prices, it is worth visiting the Premier Outlet Budapest in the town of Biatorbágy. In this shopping village, you can buy products from hundreds of premium fashion, lifestyle, and sports brands at significant discounts, with sales of up to 30–70% off.

At the Premier Outlet, you will find stores of brands such as Nike, Karl Lagerfeld, Guess, Adidas, Levi’s, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Puma, Lacoste, and Lindt, among others.

You can easily get to Premier Outlet by public transport; just take bus no. 760, 762, or 767 operated by Volánbusz from the Kelenföld bus terminal. Please note that Budapest public transport tickets or passes are not valid on these buses. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machines found at the bus terminal.
