'I Bike Budapest' Anniversary Parade, 26 April
- 23 Apr 2025 3:43 PM

This annual cycling event is both a celebration and a protest: participants cycle through the city each year asking for Budapest to become a truly safe and accessible city with a cycling infrastructure for everyone.
Speeches will be given at the beginning of the event by:
* Désirée Bonis, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Hungary
* Gábor Kürti, President of the Hungarian Cycling Club
This year, the parade starts from the Town Hall Park for the first time, and it is no coincidence. The location of the gathering also has a symbolic message say the organisers:
The march starts right next to the city government building, with which the organizers are sending the message that cycling developments cannot be postponed any longer and that a real, dedicated budget is needed for their implementation.
The organizers say:
"The route of the 10th 'I bike Budapest' parade has been designated so that participants can cycle in places where it is not possible or only difficult to do so on weekdays - thereby demonstrating what Budapest could be like if it truly became a bike-friendly city."
The parade ends at Margaret Island's 'Great Meadow', where the event is traditionally concluded with a joint bike lift and group photo - this scene has become the best-known symbol of the Budapest cycling community.
Why 'I bike Budapest' is so important
The designated bicycle network in Budapest is currently about 380 km long, but according to official data from BKK, another 778 km are missing or are of inadequate quality, say the organisers.
The implementation of this network is not only about the comfort of cyclists, but also about the livability and competitiveness of Budapest, add the organisers.
"The parade involves tens of thousands of people every year and makes it clear: cycling is not a subcultural hobby, but a mode of urban transport for which there is a growing social demand."
