GVH identified an increase in the price of milk across Europe and higher production costs among factors boosting retail prices of dairy products, while a government-mandated cap on markups of basic foods had a mitigating effect.

GVH found that higher feed, energy, labour and logistics costs weighed on the egg sector, along with a drop in output due to bird flu. It also pointed to the impact of seasonality caused by the procurement practices of some supermarket chains.
