Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 56pc of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 24pc and vehicles with diesel engines 11pc. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for almost 9pc of sales.

Sales of battery electric vehicles rose 28.5pc to 11,002 during the period.
