Number of Payment Accounts in Hungary Surges

The central bank and financial market regulator acknowledged the entry of the new player at the end of the quarter and said it was expected to have a "significant impact" on turnover, revenue and fraud data from the next quarter onward.
The number of payment accounts — including forint and FX ones — at domestic payment service providers held by natural persons rose by 2,059,000 to 12,880,000, quarter on quarter, the NBH data show. The number of accounts held by legal persons edged up 8,000 to 1,141,000.
A Hungarian branch of Revolut Bank UAB, fintech company Revolut's European arm, was rolled out during the period.
The NBH data show the value of payment transactions in and outside of Hungary with payment cards registered in mobile wallet applications issued domestically climbed 22pc to HUF 2,457bn, quarter on quarter.
