Xpat Interview: Rudolf Tubbeh
Born in Amman Jordan.


A canadian citizen spent a good part of my life in Montreal. Otherwise studied and lived in many parts of the world, including, Libya, Lebanon, Malta , England, Italy and Switzerland... Home is where I hang my hat at the end of the day, been doing that for 18 years here in Budapest.

A bichemist by education, have been in the Pharmaceutical industry for 32 years, first in Multinationals and later founded Sager Pharma (11 years ago) and no plans to retire yet. A father of three sons. My hobbies include spending time and doing things with family: skiing, playing guitar and hopefully next year crossing the USA on motorbike.

Other than family I enjoy spending time with friends , cooking and travelling.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
Arrived in March 1992, originally was sent here by Sandoz ( currently Swiss Novartis) mother company to help build the local affiliate

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Yes most of my youth and adult life.The better question is have I ever been "home".....

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
I fell in love with the beauty and Mystique of Budapest.. It still awes me after all these years

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
I get very excited when friends visit, I love to show Budapest. The first thing I do is to convince them to stay longer. If only a weekend then, one day in Budapest, half day in Szentendre and half day depending on them: could be thermal baths, Zoo for children, a walk in margit island if the weather is nice. Must try Langos, Kurtos kalacs, a typical coffee house and of course a goulash

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Die for the Hungarian home made soups. My favorites have to be Jokai bab leves and Tarkonyi borju ragu leves.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
A good házi csipős Mangalica Kolbász.....

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Tökéletes... still cannot pronounce it nor write it properly. For that matter my least favorite words are : Nem Lehet

8. What do you miss the most from home?
Ageneral sense of Optimism, otherwise I am very OK

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Would loved to have been an orchestra conductor

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Politician

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
In Beirut and Amman

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Sking in the Laurentians or Vigna del Mar in Chile, still undecided .

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Band : Beatles
Film : the Graduate with Dustin Hofmann.
Hobby : playing bass guitar in a pop band

14. What can't you resist?
Charming Ladies

15. Red wine or white?
Full bodied Red

16. Book or movie?
Movie normally

17. Morning person or night person?
Hate to admit it over the years less a night person more a morning person.

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Abuses of fundamental human rights and disregard for international law

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Buda to live , Pest to party

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Always happy never satisfied with the status quo
