After Est Media failed to find a financial investor, the majority shareholders of Sziget led by founder and CEO Károly Gerendai will purchase 49% of Est Media’s 51% stake in the festival organising company. The purchase price is Ft 675 million, exactly the sum that Est Media owes to creditors UniCredit bank and Wallis. The stake in Sziget was the collateral offered on these loans.

“Budapest Airport has switched off electricity at the premises of Budapest Aeroservice,” CEO György Majtány of the flight catering company said. Budapest Aeroservice has not paid its rent or utility bills for months, according to the airport. “An agreement was reached on rescheduling our debt but Budapest Airport has not complied with it,” Majtány said.

In June 1,500 hectares of GMO corn crop were destroyed by orders of authorities, Népszabadság has learnt. The Montoni type corn imported from Romania by German company Saaten Union was GMO infected. The Rural development Ministry informed all farmers concerned to destroy the crops within three days, by July 1.

In the first half, 18,200 companies closed down, a record high level, up from 11,300 a year earlier, website feketelista.hu reports. In the first half 2.9% of all companies closed down. The number of new companies registered was 13,100, down from 25,400 one year earlier. The number of companies stood at 640,300 on June 30, 2012.
