The recent disturbing rise in the consumption of cheap and unregulated substances known as “designer drugs”, which have recetly resulted in several deaths across the country, could mean that Hungary is sitting on a ticking time bomb and the country is on the edge of a new type of public health crisis, journalist Csaba Lukács writes in the daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet.
Hungary’s Kúria Keeps Real Life Sentence In Force

Hungary’s supreme court has decided that the real life sentence without parole can be maintained in Hungary. The Kúria referred to case law considered by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and related Constitutional Court rulings. The ruling Fidesz party welcomed the decision, saying that maintaining the possibility of the real life sentence was a government achievement.

In reaction to the heat wave, the national meteorological service has extended its heat warning issued earlier to several counties and raised its level to second degree. Maximum temperatures on Friday afternoon were expected to be at 30 to 33 °C , which will fall no lower than 19-24 °C late in the evening.

CCTV cameras in public places are part of a Jobbik package to be submitted to Parliament aimed at improving public safety. The proposal would provide an emergency alarm system for the elderly. CCTV systems would be installed near kindergartens, schools and social care institutions. Jobbik also proposes that police officers be assigned to all secondary schools.
