"Gyula Horn, a former Hungarian prime minister who helped trigger events that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall when he symbolically cut the Iron Curtain in 1989, died June 19 at a hospital in Budapest. He was 80. The government announced the death but did not disclose a cause."

A leading left wing commentator does not dismiss the story that former Prime Minister Gyurcsány’s 2006 “lie speech” was leaked by three leading MSZP politicians, but thinks that regardless of who it was, the speech itself has left an unhealing wound on Hungary’s left wing. A right-wing columnist suggests the story is untrue and the tip-off must have come from Mr Gyurcsány.

Several hundred demonstrators who turned up outside the Fidesz headquarters in Lendvay utca on Saturday were greeted by a huge banner bearing the legend “The left-wing mafia together”, with pictures of Attila Mesterházy, Ferenc Gyurcsány, Gordon Bajnai and Tamás Portik next to each other.
