Tax office NAV is scrutinising packages shipped within Hungary that contain tobacco products in an effort to crack down on the illegal tobacco market, NAV said on its Facebook page. NAV said it had seized more than one and a half tonnes of illegal tobacco products worth some 20 million forints (EUR 67,000).

Hungary’s parliament approved 255 laws this year, 30 more than a year before, with the total length of parliamentary sessions shrinking to 795 hours from 918 in 2012. Of all the laws approved, 88 were new legislation, 167 amendments and 44 international treaties or agreements.

Cardin, who as chairman of the US Helsinki Committee conducted a hearing on the issue in March, said the church law remains problematic because Parliament has an “unreviewable” power to decide what is or is not a recognised church.
