Parliament on Friday rejected an amendment motion under which a congestion fee could be collected from drivers in Budapest. The motion was submitted by two deputy mayors who are also MPs, of whom Gábor Bagdy abstained from voting while István György voted against his own proposal. It was soundly rejected by 305 votes to 14.

"The cabinet late Tuesday submitted to Parliament motions to strengthen the independence of the central bank, a precondition for the start of loan talks with the IMF, the Economy Ministry announced.
