The chief prosecutor’s office has raised charges of human smuggling against five people including three police officers. The officers are believed to have monitored the movements of patrols along the border in the Hercegszántó area, and helped illegal immigrants avoid a police check, the office said. All five suspects have been arrested.

The ministry issued its statement after reports that 18 tax officers are suspected of cigarette smuggling. All members of NAV, an agency which collects 93% of revenues to the central budget, must be irreproachable and fully abide with the law, the statement said.
