Nearly 33,000 Hungarians Living Abroad Get Pensions From Home

Nearly 33,000 Hungarians living abroad, mostly in Germany, receive pensions or other pension-type benefits from Hungary, daily Magyar Idők said, citing data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH). Around 85% of the total number or nearly 30,000 people get their old-age pension sent abroad, some 2,500 get widow’s pension and parent’s pension benefits, and some 500 get orphan’s benefit.

Hungary faces several legal changes as of Jan. 1, 2017, including a drop in the bank levy, whose upper bracket will be reduced by 3 basis points to 0.21 percent. The reduction in the tax comes as part of an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The Original Finnish Santa Claus arrives to Hungary already for the 15th time this December. Santa Claus, or Joulupukki as Finns call him, flies all the way from the Lappish town of Rovaniemi with Finnair’s Santa Claus airplane and arrives to Budapest airport on Thursday the 1st of December around 11 am.
