Police freed ten migrants locked in a small van left abandoned by the driver on the roadside near the Hegyeshalom crossing point to Austria, a regional press spokesman said. The ten Iraqi nationals were discovered hiding in the back of the vehicle and shouting for help on Monday afternoon. The minivan carrying German plates was seized and legal proceedings were launched.

Police stopped a total of 2,858 illegal border crossers in Hungary this past weekend, the national police (ORFK) told MTI. The ORFK reported on its website that it had launched proceedings against two individuals for human smuggling and ten for forgery of official documents.
