Police: 500 Illegal Migrants Caught Over Weekend

A total of 501 illegal migrants were apprehended in Hungary over the weekend, the highest number since last autumn, the national police headquarters said. Figures posted on the police website show that 113 illegal migrants were caught on Friday, 151 on Saturday and 237 on Sunday.

Kecskemét prosecutors will put on trial in a fast track procedure 15 refugees who were involved in a disturbance at a detention centre in Kiskunhalas on January 15. The incident started when two Iraqis began fighting over access to the internet and armed security guards moved to separate them. One of the men then began to scuffle with arriving police.

Szeged Sub-county Court on Monday ordered the custodial arrest of ten migrants who are suspected of inciting a protest by refugees at a shelter in Nagyfa, Csongrád county on Friday. The ten, of whom seven are Iraqis, two Syrians and one Serb, barred the door to their cells at Nagyfa temporary detention centre and destroyed the heating system.
Bribed Judge Gets 12 Years

The Debrecen Court of Appeals yesterday extended from 10 years to 12 the prison sentence given to a former judge who had been convicted of taking bribes. The judge had accepted payment in exchange for more lenient treatment. The judge was suspended in January 2012, and is now banned for ten years from public affairs and banned for life from working as a judge or lawyer.

Police have launched proceedings against more than 24,000 migrants who crossed illegally to Hungary over the weekend, it said on its website police.hu. Fully 23,591 people were apprehended on the Hungarian-Croatian border and 636 on the border with Serbia, police said. Five people were taken into custody for suspected forgery. Alleged Member Of Terrorist Front In Preliminary Detention In Hungary

The Szeged county court, in southern Hungary, ordered the preliminary detention for one month of a Syrian man who was allegedly one of the organisers of clashes between migrants and police last week. The Syrian known as Ahmed H is also alleged to be a member of a terrorist front. A court spokeswoman said that the man held a Schengen visa but had entered Hungary illegally.
